Nationwide Insurance Offers Tips to Protect Home and Belongings from Severe Weather

-

Columbus, OH – June 13, 2013 – (RealEstateRama) — As the potential for severe weather increases, Nationwide Insurance wants to remind those living in the Midwest to take a few precautionary measures to protect their home and personal belongings from damaging wind and heavy rain.

Nationwide Insurance recommends residents who may be affected by severe weather to do the following:

• Remove or securely anchor loose objects on your property that could be picked up and moved by the wind. This includes yard toys, trash cans, grills, lawn or deck furniture or tree limbs/branches.
• If you have a garage, move your vehicles inside to protect them from flying debris.
• Use the straps and ground anchors used with manufactured homes to anchor outbuildings, especially small garden sheds not placed on a permanent foundation.
• Inspect down spouts to make sure they are clear and free of any debris. Make sure any downspouts that are close to your home are redirected away from the home to move the water away.

Nationwide Insurance claims representatives and agents are able to assist customers affected by severe storms. Policyholders with storm damage should call the Nationwide Insurance claims hotline at 800-421-3535.

In the event a policyholder needs to file an insurance claim, representatives are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to assist them. To help expedite the process, it is helpful to have a policy number or home address available when placing the call. Also, make note of any injuries received and any witnesses or police authority contacted in relation to property damage.
