Sanitary Sewer Overflows into Broad Creek

Laurel – June 29, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — Preliminary findings indicate that a Sanitary Sewer Overflow (SSO) at the Broad Creek Wastewater Pumping Station at 10315 Livingston Rd. in Ft. Washington exceeded 10,000 gallons. The overflow occurred on Saturday night in the wake of the heavy rainfall at the pumping station.

WSSC crews posted updated signs in the affected area today. An official amount of the overflow will be provided tomorrow once the amount has been determined by WSSC personnel. Appropriate notifications have been made to the Maryland Department of the Environment, the Prince George’s County Health Department, and local municipalities. WSSC is committed to protecting the health of the public and the environment. With more than 5,400 miles of sewer mains throughout its service area, WSSC appreciates notification from citizens if a sewer back up is suspected. Citizens can call 301-206-4002 or toll free 1-800-828-6439 at any time to report water or sewer emergencies in Prince George’s or Montgomery counties.
