Hanley Wood Announces 2015 Hearthstone BUILDER Humanitarian Award

Washington, DC – May 12, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — Hanley Wood, the premier information, media, event, and strategic marketing services company serving the residential, commercial design and construction industries, has announced that Dan Ryan, President and CEO of Dan Ryan Builders, is the 2015 recipient of the 2015 Hearthstone Humanitarian Award, presented annually by BUILDER magazine.

“The Hearthstone BUILDER Award is meant to honor those in our industry who invest their time, energy and resources to helping others,” said Peter Goldstone, CEO of Hanley Wood. “We are proud to recognize Dan Ryan for his commitment to giving back to those in need and to helping people live a better life.”

Hearthstone and BUILDER, together with founding sponsor Kohler Company, joined forces to create an award program to recognize builders who go the extra mile to help others. Now in its 16th year, the Hearthstone BUILDER Humanitarian Award continues to honor builders who have demonstrated a lifetime commitment to making their communities a better place to work and live.

Ryan’s charitable focus, although not exclusively, is low-income housing. In Frederick, Maryland – where Dan Ryan Builders is headquartered – Ryan’s main focus is the rescue mission, a Christian organization that served 165,000 meals to poor, homeless, and working-class locals last year and houses up to 32 men at a time in its Changed Life Recovery Program, an effort to help recovering drug addicts and ex-convicts earn their high school equivalency diplomas, find jobs and permanent housing, reconcile with their families, and connect with a local church. This year, the mission will open an eight-bed residential program to do the same for homeless women and children. Ryan donated $100,000 to the effort and helped the charity navigate some local zoning obstacles.

Outside of Frederick, where the company’s headquarters is located, Dan Ryan Builders staff elsewhere in Maryland and in Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, as well as North Carolina and South Carolina are allotted a budget to spend on charity work in their communities. Each division is required to spend the money—and they do.

Ryan was selected by a panel of top industry leaders with experience in humanitarian outreach:

  •     Frank Anton, Vice Chairman of Hanley Wood (BUILDER’s parent company);
  •     Mark Porath, CEO of Hearthstone;
  •     Bert Selva, CEO of Shea Homes; and
  •     Larry Webb, CEO of The New Home Co.

Ryan will be honored at the 2015 Housing Leadership Summit, taking place May 11-13 at the Turnberry Isle Resort in Aventura, Florida.
