National Homeless Numbers Decline from 2010 to 2011

WASHINGTON, D.C. - December 16, 2011 - (RealEstateRama) -- The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) reported a 2.1 percent decline in the number of people experiencing homelessness on a given night in January 2011. The number of homeless people, based on counts conducted by localities and states across the nation (called Point-In-Time [PIT] counts), decreased from 649,917 to 636,017. Among the other notable findings presented in the PIT report was a 12 percent decrease among veterans experiencing homelessness between 2010 and 2011.
