LA County Rolls Out Online System for Building and Safety Permits


WASHINGTON, D.C. – August 1, 2014 – (RealEstateRama) –From multimillion dollar construction projects to adding a room on a single-family home, submitting building plans to LA County Public Works is now just a click away.

Public Works recently launched its electronic building plan check system to include unincorporated area communities within the Antelope Valley, Calabasas, Santa Clarita Valley, and East Los Angeles. Customers can now upload engineering plans for review, pay fees, and track their projects from submission to permit approval, 24-hours-a-day, 7-days-a-week. According to Hector Bordas, head of County Public Works’ Building and Safety Division, submitting plans online holds multiple benefits for homeowners, developers, consultants, County plan checkers, and the environment.

“Public Works’ online submittal system is not only more efficient, it’s an environmentally-friendly and sustainable business practice,” Bordas said. “It drastically reduces paper consumption and printing costs, reduces traffic and air-pollution by taking cars off the road, and reduces the cost of doing business here in LA County.”

The online system was first implemented earlier this year at the East Los Angeles and Universal City Building and Safety district offices. Public Works anticipates rolling out the system to its remaining unincorporated area district offices by January 2015.
