NHC hails the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act becoming law, turns focus to implementation
Washington, D.C., – RealEstateRama – David M. Dworkin, President and CEO of the National Housing Conference (NHC), released the following statement after the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act became law:
“Today marks a major victory for American families, communities, and the housing groups that worked for years to make the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act a reality. With this bipartisan law, long-needed reforms can move forward to strengthen our nation’s housing system. This legislation will only be as effective as its implementation. Regulations must be written that ensures the bill’s promise becomes reality.
The National Housing Conference’s Housing Supply Working Group will immediately take up this task, using our adoption of agentic artificial intelligence to assist the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, the Department of the Treasury, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and the Department of Veterans Affairs in writing regulations in a fraction of the time it would have taken in the past. The 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act should be implemented with the full resources available in the 21st century.
We appreciate President Trump allowing this important bipartisan legislation to become law as it delivers meaningful reforms that will increase housing supply, modernize federal housing programs, strengthen disaster recovery tools, support community development, expand housing counseling and financial literacy efforts, and improve access to homeownership and rental housing.
This law proves that when the need is urgent and the coalition is broad enough, Congress and the Administration can come together to deliver practical solutions. No one got everything they wanted, but the country gets something it badly needs: a stronger, more modern federal housing framework that will help existing resources go further and support communities across the country.
The housing affordability crisis is far from over, and our work is not done. But today is an important milestone. NHC looks forward to working with the Trump Administration, Congress, and our partners across the housing ecosystem to ensure this law is implemented effectively and to continue advancing solutions that make housing more affordable and accessible for all.”
