Washington, D.C. – May 16, 2012 – (RealEstateRama) — The American Institute of Architects (AIA) is partnering with Broadcastr on a project that will raise public awareness of architectural accomplishments, elevate appreciation of the profession, and provide reasoning behind design.
Broadcastr is a new application for iPhone and Android that links media to places. With thousands of stories and tours curated by experts and users, Broadcastr transforms any iPhone or Android device into a multimedia guide to the world. Users of the app can seamlessly discover great content relevant to where they are, as stories about their surroundings stream automatically to their phones.
AIA is curating in-depth architectural interviews that users can discover as they walk, drive, or bike through a particular city. AIA is piloting the partnership in New York City, Los Angeles, and Washington, D.C.
“People are hungry to learn more about the buildings they encounter. Who made them? Why are they sited or configured in a particular way? With Broadcastr, they can learn the history and reasoning behind a building’s design, often accompanied by the original architect’s own insights. Individual buildings can come to life when aided by the Broadcastr experience,” said AIA EVP/Chief Executive Officer, Robert Ivy, FAIA.
“Imagine standing in front of one of the world’s great buildings and listening to the architect tell you about her inspiration,” said Andy Hunter, CEO of Broadcastr. “We are thrilled that our partnership with AIA makes that possible.”
Participants of the Broadcastr project are asked to share insight on a building they designed or a building they are passionate about. This exciting national initiative between AIA and Broadcastr will effectively create a voice for buildings, as well as the profession of architecture by enabling the general public to hear directly from the architects. The application provides an intimate, immersive experience by unlocking enriching multimedia based on location.
Audio interviews will be included in tours within the app.. The AIA has a Broadcastr page on its website containing general information and audio interviews from the tours, http://www.aia.org/broadcastr. High resolution photographs of all selected structures will be posted along with audio files.
“This partnership is especially unique in that it promotes AIA’s utilization of innovative technologies. This may be the start of other AIA initiatives involving interactive multimedia companies. Technology has changed the landscape of many professions for the better, and it will do the same for architecture.” —Kevin Novak, Vice President of Integrated Web Strategy and Technology for The AIA
The partners hope to expand multimedia tours to other locations nationwide in the coming months.
