WASHINGTON, DC – November 5, 2015 – (RealEstateRama) — U.S. Senators Mark Warner and Tim Kaine announced that Hopewell, Virginia will receive a $182,288 grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The funding will help local governments fight housing discrimination, improve economic conditions and increase access to affordable housing.

“These funds will strengthen the community and improve the quality of life for residents,” said Sen. Warner. “This is an investment in Hopewell’s future that will expand economic opportunity now and in the years to come.

“Throughout my time as a fair housing lawyer, and in public service, I’ve seen the tremendous benefits equal access to housing and home ownership can have in our communities,” said Sen. Kaine. “Today’s announcement will help ensure the supply of affordable housing, improve the lives of families and the community of Hopewell.”

Today’s funding was awarded through HUD’s Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program. The CDBG program provides grants to state and local governments to develop viable urban communities by providing decent housing and a suitable living environment, and by expanding economic opportunities, principally for low- and moderate-income persons.
