The Black homeownership rate, currently at 42.2%, is just tenths of a percentage point higher than the same rate reported by the U.S. Census Bureau 50 years ago when the Fair Housing Act was signed into law. This troubling fact is the impetus behind the National Association of Real Estate Brokers’ (NAREB) program to increase Black homeownership by two (2) million over the next five (5) years.
