Gets Three Other Subcommittees of Importance to D.C.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – (RealEstateRama) — Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) was elected by her fellow Democrats on the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee (T&I) to serve as chair of its Subcommittee on Highways and Transit. Norton will also serve on three other subcommittees that she sought because of their strong effects on the District—Economic Development, Public Buildings and Emergency Management; Aviation; and Railroads, Pipelines and Hazardous Materials.

“I appreciate the confidence of my colleagues in electing me as Chair of the Highways and Transit Subcommittee at a time when we must prepare to renew the long-term surface transportation bill,” Norton said. “I will be looking to not only help rescue our nation’s infrastructure by fixing what is broken, but to also update our transportation to include new modes of transportation, from high-speed rail to autonomous vehicles. In addition, the subcommittee has special importance to the District because of its jurisdiction over Metro. I will work to increase investments in our nation’s transit systems and rebuild the investments we have made for decades in our national infrastructure.”
