Architects Commend House Draft Proposal on Small Business Tax Reform

Simplification of Tax Code for Small Businesses a Key AIA Priority

Washington, D.C. – March 14, 2013 – (RealEstateRama) — The American Institute of Architects today expressed support for a draft proposal by Rep. Dave Camp (R-Mich.), Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, that would dramatically simplify the tax code for small businesses such as architects and help them create more jobs. The following statement should be attributed to AIA President Mickey Jacob, FAIA:

“As more than 90 percent of AIA members have less than 50 employees, we are supportive of any legislative effort that both simplifies the tax code and preserves the current tax treatment of small businesses.

“In this regard, Rep. Camp’s proposal is a promising way to start the debate on tax reform for small business, especially as the design and construction industry is in the midst of a jobs-producing recovery from recession.

“We look forward to working with Rep. Camp and others to see such legislation passed in this session of Congress.”
