Mayor Vincent C. Gray Focusing Resources on Affordable Housing

Groundbreaking for The Nannie Helen at 4800 Will Be Followed by Announcement of Revitalization of Comprehensive Housing Strategy Task Force at Biweekly Press Briefing

WASHINGTON, D.C. – February 22, 2012 – (RealEstateRama) — WHAT/WHO: Mayor Vincent C. Gray, Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton, Council Chair Kwame R. Brown, Ward 7 Councilmember Yvette Alexander and other government officials will break ground on The Nannie Helen at 4800, a mixed-use development featuring 71 affordable-housing units on Nannie Helen Burroughs Avenue NE.

Following the groundbreaking, Mayor Gray will hold his biweekly press briefing and announce that he is revitalizing the Comprehensive Housing Strategy Task Force to advise and assist him in refining and implementing an affordable-housing strategy for the District.

BACKGROUND: Mayor Gray outlined his vision for One City in his State of the District Address, which includes increasing the amount of affordable housing available in the District to maintain the city’s diversity of incomes, backgrounds and professional profiles. Participants in the recent One City Summit affirmed that District residents are concerned about affordable housing.
