KOHL SENIOR HOUSING BILL TO BECOME LAW

WASHINGTON, DC - December 21, 2010 - (RealEstateRama) -- U.S. Senator Herb Kohl (D-WI), chairman of the Special Committee on Aging, announced the passage of S.118 by the U.S. House of Representatives. S.118, passed under unanimous consent by the U.S. Senate this past weekend, will improve the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) Section 202 Supportive Housing for the Elderly Program. The Section 202 program provides capital grants to non-profit community organizations for the development of supportive housing and provision of rental assistance exclusively for low-income seniors. Through such housing and supportive services, the program allows low-income seniors to remain safely in their homes.

Commercial/Multifamily Real Estate Markets Responding to the Economy

WASHINGTON, D.C. - December 21, 2010 - (RealEstateRama) -- The Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA) today released its Commercial Real Estate/Multifamily Finance Quarterly Data Book for the third quarter of 2010. The analysis shows that the real estate cycle is beginning to once again exert itself in commercial and multifamily property markets. During the third quarter, the economy began to show (modest) growth and absorption picked up in the face of little new space coming on line. The result has been marginal declines in vacancy rates and a firming of asking rents. Property sales and originations volumes picked up, but volumes were not high enough to keep up with the mortgage debt that investors saw paying off and paying down. The weak economy continued to exert pressure on the performance of properties and the mortgages they back. Mortgage delinquencies were mixed in the quarter, with CMBS and banks/thrifts experiencing continued growth in delinquency rates (albeit at slower rates of growth) and delinquencies at life companies, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac remaining at low levels

Washington, DC - December 21, 2010 - (RealEstateRama) -- Refinancings through the Home Affordable Refinance Program (HARP) increased 26 percent in the third quarter of 2010. Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac loan modifications through the Home Affordable Modification Program (HAMP) increased 16 percent in the quarter, although the overall volume of loan modifications and the pace of HAMP modifications declined from previous periods. FEMA Extends Lower Cost Flood Insurance Option To Eligible Property Owners In High-Risk Flood...

WASHINGTON, D.C. - December 20, 2010 - (RealEstateRama) -- Thousands who own homes and businesses in locations recently designated as high-risk flood areas will soon have a new way to save on flood insurance protection. Beginning January 1, 2011, the Federal Emergency Management Agency's (FEMA) National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) is offering a new insurance rating option that will allow many property owners to take advantage of lower-cost flood insurance for two years before they are required to pay standard rates. The program will make Preferred Risk Policies (PRPs), which start at just $129 a year and are typically only available for properties in moderate-to-low risk areas, available for properties that have been newly mapped into high-risk areas due to a flood map revision on or after October 1, 2008.

Former General Contractor Found Guilty of Nineteen Counts in Mortgage Fraud Scheme

JACKSONVILLE, FL—U.S. Attorney Robert E. O'Neill announces that a federal jury today found David Wesley Vickers (age 48, of Jacksonville) guilty of nineteen counts arising out of a mortgage fraud scheme, including conspiracy to commit mail, wire, and bank fraud. Vickers faces a maximum penalty of 30 years in federal prison for the conspiracy count and 20 years for each of the other counts. A sentencing date has not yet been set.

FHLBank Pittsburgh Awards $2.7 Million in Affordable Housing Program Grants

December 16, 2010 - (RealEstateRama) -- Huge jumps in prices for diesel fuel and copper—two key inputs to construction—pinched contractors in November as weak demand for construction forced them to hold down bid prices despite the cost increases, according to an analysis of November producer price index figures released today by the Associated General Contractors of America. Prices for materials used in construction climbed 0.5 percent in November and 4.8 percent over the past 12 months, while price indexes for finished buildings remained flat over both time periods. The PPI for finished goods went up 0.4 percent for the month and 3.5 percent year-over-year.
