Statement of Support for IEA Housing CEM Secretariat from Energy Secretary Moniz

WASHINGTON, D.C. – June 17, 2016 – (RealEstateRama) — U.S. Secretary of Energy Ernest Moniz released the following statement regarding the Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM) moving their secretariat to the International Energy Agency (IEA) from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE):

“Early this month, energy ministers and other high-level delegates from 23 countries and the European Union met at CEM7 in San Francisco. The commitments made there demonstrate how the United States and our global partners can expand clean energy deployment and cut global carbon emissions while driving economic growth.

“In San Francisco, CEM members agreed to launch an enhanced effort called “CEM 2.0,” voting to increase the organization’s effectiveness by creating an international secretariat to support CEM initiatives at the IEA. Today, in a crucial step to multilateralize the CEM, I would like to both thank and congratulate IEA Executive Director Fatih Birol and the IEA on their decision to officially house the CEM Secretariat.

“A stronger, international CEM Secretariat under the IEA will help speed the deployment of clean energy technologies to meet our climate goals and grow low-carbon economies globally. I look forward to the progress we made at CEM7 continuing next year at CEM8 in China.”
