Congressman Cohen to Celebrate $3 Million Federal Appropriation for Historic Melrose High School Renovation

WASHINGTON – RealEstateRama – Congressman Steve Cohen (TN-9) will hold a press availability to celebrate the $3 million appropriation he secured for the renovation of Historic Melrose High School in Orange Mound on Monday, November 27.  Memphis Mayor Jim Strickland and the city’s Housing and Community Development Director Ashley Cash will also speak and take questions.

The 40,000-square-foot structure was built in 1938 in the Art Moderne style and was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2001. The renovation under way now will create a library, genealogy center, a café and 28 senior living apartments. The project is part of the city’s Accelerate Memphis initiative. Congressman Cohen has been a longtime supporter of Orange Mound dating to his time as a state Senator when he secured funding for its senior care center and community center.
