This year, Lowe’s and Habitat for Humanity are joining forces and working together with 1,000 families to build or repair their homes by December. Many of these families will celebrate the holiday season from the comfort of a safe and stable home for the very first time. Habitat and Lowe’s will launch this initiative by framing the first house on March 4 at the Kobalt 400, where they will be joined by NASCAR driver Jimmie Johnson.

DGS Commitment to Energy Efficiency Earns Recognition

The Louis L. Goldstein District Court & Multi-Service Center in Prince Frederick has earned the Environmental Protection Agency’s ENERGY STAR for reducing its energy consumption. Owned andEnergy Star logo managed by DGS, the building is a 74,500 square foot facility that houses the Calvert County District Court and other government offices, including the Department of Assessments & Taxation, Motor Vehicle Administration, State Fire Marshall, State’s Attorney and Office of the Public Defender, among others.

St. John Continues to Recover, Prepares for Rebuilding in wake of Tornado

St. John the Baptist Parish – St. John the Baptist Parish President Robottom, Council and officials want to thank the Faith-Based Community, local groups and organizations, and all who donated their time, efforts and resources to the restoration of the Parish following last week’s tornado. Countless meals and non-perishables have been administered to tornado victims and additional provisions will be given to affected residents in the upcoming days.

Walker River Paiutes to develop tribal water quality standards

The U.S. EPA announced the approval of the Walker River Paiute Tribe’s application for “Treatment in a similar manner as a State” under Sections 303 and 401 of the Clean Water Act. Jared Blumenfeld, EPA’s Regional Administrator for the Pacific Southwest, presented the signed Certificate of Achievement in a meeting with the Tribal Chairman, Bobby Sanchez, at the Walker River Paiute Tribe Administration Building in Shurz, Nev.

Norton Gets Two Priorities Passed in GSA Reform Bill

Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) said two of her top priorities were included in the Public Buildings Reform and Savings Act of 2016, which Norton cosponsored and was passed today by the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee. FEMA Awards $1.4 Million to Chelan County Public Utility District for Wildfire Assistance

More than $1.4 million has been awarded to the Chelan County Public Utility District No. 1 to help reimburse the utility for costs to restore power to thousands of residents during the summer 2015 wildfires, according to officials from the Washington Military Department’s Emergency Management Division (EMD) and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)

Google and IEEE announced today that Belgium's Red Electrical Devils, a team from CE+T Power, has won the Little Box Challenge, a competition to invent a much smaller inverter for interconnecting solar power systems to the power grid. EPA Top Water Official Tours Local Water Facilities Focusing on Sustainability

On Friday, February 26th, U.S. EPA Deputy Assistant Administrator for Water Joel Beauvais will end his California tour of several sustainable water facilities at the Oro Loma wastewater treatment and purification plant in San Lorenzo. His visit will focus on their innovative “horizontal levee” ecotone project, which is transforming a 10-acre weedy field to provide wastewater treatment, wet weather storage, shoreline habitat, and infrastructure protection from rising sea level. The levee is also an outdoor laboratory used to research climate change adaptation methods to protect infrastructure around San Francisco Bay.

HUD AND CENSUS BUREAU REPORT NEW RESIDENTIAL SALES IN JANUARY

Sales of new single-family houses in January 2016 were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 494,000, according to estimates released jointly today by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the U.S. Census Bureau. This is 9.2 percent (±13.5%)* below the revised December rate of 544,000 and is 5.2 percent (±12.6%)* below the January 2015 estimate of 521,000.
