VA Launches Community-Based Employment Service for Homeless Veterans
The Department of Veterans Affairs today announced a new employment program aimed at helping job-ready Veterans exiting homelessness, and those on the brink of homelessness, gain stable and long-term employment.
Stepping Up Efforts to Address Veterans Homelessness
As part of a community-wide effort, Home Forward has increased its support for veterans experiencing homelessness. The partners in the effort, which include the cities of Portland and Gresham, Multnomah County, the Veterans Administration, and a host of social service agencies, have a goal of finding homes for 500 vets by the end of 2015.

HUD AND VA TO HELP MORE THAN 9,000 HOMELESS VETERANS FIND PERMANENT HOMES
In the ongoing effort to end veteran homelessness, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) announced nearly $65 million to help more than 9,300 homeless veterans find a permanent place to call home. The rental assistance announced today is provided through the HUD-Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (HUD-VASH) Program which combines rental assistance from HUD with case management and clinical services provided by VA.

Matthew Doherty Named Executive Director of U.S. Interagency Council on Homelessness
U.S. Secretary of Labor Thomas Perez announced today that Matthew Doherty has been named Executive Director of the U.S. Interagency Council on Homelessness (USICH). “With over 22 years of experience working to prevent and end homelessness with local communities across the country and across a wide variety of sectors, Matthew brings a unique background to the position that will serve USICH, the Council, and all people experiencing homelessness well,” said Secretary Perez, who serves as the Chair of the Council.
DOL-VETS Releases SGA for HVRP Grants
The Department of Labor Veterans' Employment and Training Service (DOL-VETS) has released a Solicitation for Grant Applications (SGA) for the Homeless Veteran Reintegration Program (HVRP). Funding of $4 million is available to provide an estimated 2,000 veterans with job-driven training for in-demand jobs to help them successfully transition from homelessness to sustainable housing and good civilian jobs. Homeless veterans may receive occupational, classroom and on-the-job training, as well as job search and placement assistance, including follow-up services
