The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) today announced a settlement agreement with Baltimore County, Maryland to expand affordable housing in higher opportunity areas throughout the County. The settlement will serve as a catalyst to promote housing mobility and to assist the County and its surrounding areas in developing comprehensive affordable housing planning and strategies that address residential segregation

U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary Julián Castro today awarded $1.6 billion in grants to provide funding to 6,400 local homeless housing and service programs across the U.S., Puerto Rico, Guam and the U.S. Virgin Islands. 

HUD AWARDS $32 MILLION TO PROMOTE JOBS, SELF-SUFFICIENCY FOR PUBLIC HOUSING RESIDENTS

To help public housing residents find jobs and educational opportunities, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) today awarded nearly $32 million in grants to public housing authorities and non-profit organizations across the nation to hire or retain service coordinators to help residents achieve economic and housing independence. HUD STREAMLINES RENT REGULATIONS

In an effort to reduce the administrative burden on state and local governments, public housing authorities and private owners of HUD-assisted multifamily properties, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) today posted on its website for advanced review a forthcoming new rule to ease its regulatory requirements under a number of the Department’s programs.

HUD AND CENSUS BUREAU REPORT NEW RESIDENTIAL SALES IN JANUARY

Sales of new single-family houses in January 2016 were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 494,000, according to estimates released jointly today by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the U.S. Census Bureau. This is 9.2 percent (±13.5%)* below the revised December rate of 544,000 and is 5.2 percent (±12.6%)* below the January 2015 estimate of 521,000.

HUD ANNOUNCES 2016 FINALISTS IN STUDENT AFFORDABLE HOUSING DESIGN AND PLANNING COMPETITION

HUD ALLOCATES MORE THAN $660 MILLION TO NATIVE AMERICAN COMMUNITIES TO SUPPORT AFFORDABLE HOUSING

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development today announced more than $660 million in grant allocations to 587 Native American tribes in 35 states (see list below). Indian Housing Block Grant (IHBG) allocations are distributed each year to eligible Indian tribes or their tribally designated housing entities for a range of affordable housing activities.

HUD AWARDS $1.8 BILLION TO IMPROVE, PRESERVE NATION’S PUBLIC HOUSING

U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julián Castro today announced HUD is allocating more $1.8 billion to public housing authorities in all 50 states, as well as the District of Columbia, Guam, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands to make needed capital improvements in their properties. HUD AWARDS MORE THAN $55 MILLION FOR AFFORDABLE HOUSING AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT IN NATIVE AMERICAN COMMUNITIES

the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) announced $55.5 million to 75 Native American communities throughout the country to improve housing conditions and stimulate community development, including construction projects and local jobs for low- and moderate-income families. The grants are provided through HUD’s Indian Community Development Block Grant (ICDBG) Program, which supports a wide range of community development and affordable housing activities. HUD PROPOSES TO EXEMPT RECREATIONAL VEHICLES FROM MANUFACTURED HOUSING STANDARDS

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development today (HUD) announced a proposed rule to exempt certain recreational vehicles from HUD’s Manufactured Housing Procedural and Enforcement Regulations.  HUD’s proposed rule seeks to revise the exemption for recreational vehicles that are not self-propelled and is based upon a recommendation from an advisory committee made up of manufactured housing producers, retailers, consumers and the general public.

Building on the Obama Administration’s goal to expand high speed broadband to all Americans, today, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary Julián Castro and Google Fiber Vice President, Dennis Kish, announced that the West Bluff Townhomes in Kansas City, Missouri will be the first public housing development to be connected to Google Fiber’s ultra-high speed (gigabit speed, or up to 1000 mbps) internet through the ConnectHome Initiative.

HUD CONSIDERS NEW RULE ON “OVER INCOME” PUBLIC HOUSING RESIDENTS

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) today announced the agency is considering a new rule to ensure that individuals and families residing in public housing actually need housing assistance should their incomes grow well beyond the levels required for their initial admission. HUD is seeking public comment on methods to address ‘over-income’ public housing residents who continue to reside in public housing as other families wait for vacant units to become available

Sales of new single-family houses in December 2015 were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 544,000, according to estimates released jointly today by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the U.S. Census Bureau. This is 10.8 percent (±17.1%)* above the revised November rate of 491,000 and is 9.9 percent (±25.0%)* above the December 2014 estimate of 495,000.
