New CAP Analysis Shows that Clean Energy Technologies, Not Fossil Fuels, Are on the Path to Real Energy Dominance

Washington, D.C. –- (RealEstateRama) — As the Trump administration’s Energy Week draws to a close, two energy experts and former Obama administration officials released a Center for American Progress analysis documenting how President Barack Obama’s policy decisions ushered in market-transforming growth and momentum in the clean energy sector.

Center for American Progress

“President Obama created a business environment that nurtured innovation, entrepreneurship, and growth in the clean energy sector,” said Robert M. Simon, co-author of the analysis and former principal advisor to the director for energy, transportation, and resources in the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy.

“The clean energy boom is an American success story—one that we will continue if we keep making forward-looking choices for cleaner energy, which Americans overwhelmingly support, and avoid partisan policies that would throw away our winning hand.”

“President Trump’s idea that coal, oil and gas companies will produce U.S. ‘energy dominance’ in the 21st century couldn’t be more wrongheaded,” ?said David J. Hayes, a senior fellow at the Center for American Progress and the former deputy secretary of the U.S. Department of the Interior. “?American innovators and business leaders, encouraged by President Obama and with the support of the Congress, governors and mayors from around the nation, have demonstrated that clean, renewable energy can and should anchor America’s, and the world’s, energy future, generating millions of new jobs, while protecting our environment. The facts now show what is possible, and who will be accountable, if America turns away from its clean energy future.”
The paper outlines several key metrics of success that now stand as a baseline for charting future progress. These metrics include, among others, the share of renewable energy sources in the U.S. electricity mix; the level of the U.S. government’s commitment to research, development, and demonstration for clean energy technology; the promotion of renewable energy project deployment on public lands; and the development of strong energy efficiency standards for products used throughout the economy.

This approach stands in stark contrast to that of President Donald Trump, who has been championing a new theme of “energy dominance” with a focus on fossil fuel development.
