HUD MAKES $40 MILLION AVAILABLE FOR HOUSING COUNSELING GRANTS

HUD ALLOCATES MORE THAN $660 MILLION TO NATIVE AMERICAN COMMUNITIES TO SUPPORT AFFORDABLE HOUSING
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development today announced more than $660 million in grant allocations to 587 Native American tribes in 35 states (see list below). Indian Housing Block Grant (IHBG) allocations are distributed each year to eligible Indian tribes or their tribally designated housing entities for a range of affordable housing activities.
HUD AWARDS $1.8 BILLION TO IMPROVE, PRESERVE NATION’S PUBLIC HOUSING
U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julián Castro today announced HUD is allocating more $1.8 billion to public housing authorities in all 50 states, as well as the District of Columbia, Guam, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands to make needed capital improvements in their properties. the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) announced $55.5 million to 75 Native American communities throughout the country to improve housing conditions and stimulate community development, including construction projects and local jobs for low- and moderate-income families. The grants are provided through HUD’s Indian Community Development Block Grant (ICDBG) Program, which supports a wide range of community development and affordable housing activities. HUD PROPOSES TO EXEMPT RECREATIONAL VEHICLES FROM MANUFACTURED HOUSING STANDARDS
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development today (HUD) announced a proposed rule to exempt certain recreational vehicles from HUD’s Manufactured Housing Procedural and Enforcement Regulations. HUD’s proposed rule seeks to revise the exemption for recreational vehicles that are not self-propelled and is based upon a recommendation from an advisory committee made up of manufactured housing producers, retailers, consumers and the general public.

HUD AND CENSUS BUREAU REPORT NEW RESIDENTIAL SALES IN DECEMBER
Sales of new single-family houses in December 2015 were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 544,000, according to estimates released jointly today by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the U.S. Census Bureau. This is 10.8 percent (±17.1%)* above the revised November rate of 491,000 and is 9.9 percent (±25.0%)* above the December 2014 estimate of 495,000.
FHA TO CUT INSURANCE RATES ON MULTIFAMILY MORTGAGES
In an effort to help preserve and increase the amount of affordable, quality rental housing across the country, the Federal Housing Administration (FHA) today announced a multifamily insurance rate reduction designed to encourage capital financing of affordable and energy-efficient apartments. The rate reductions announced today will take effect on April 1, 2016, and will directly impact FHA’s Multifamily Housing Programs and properties housing low- and moderate-income families and/or developments installing energy-efficient systems or building within federal energy guidelines.
