Rebuilding Together AmeriCorps Members to serve an additional 2,000 low-income homeowners, veterans, and disaster victims in need

WASHINGTON, DC – August 1, 2013 – (RealEstateRama) — Rebuilding Together, a national nonprofit working to improve the lives of homeowners in need, was awarded a $731,244 grant from the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS) to continue the Rebuilding Together AmeriCorps program.

In its sixth year, Rebuilding Together AmeriCorps is a National*Direct program with 65 full-time members serving in 22 states to assist more low-income homeowners in need. As developing affordable housing preservation leaders, these AmeriCorps members serve essential roles in building the capacity of their host sites in areas such as recruiting and managing volunteers, performing direct home repairs, building community partnerships, and creating new programs. For this reason, the program is known as the Rebuilding Together CapacityCorps.

“Through the support of CNCS, Rebuilding Together AmeriCorps members have helped over 7,500 low-income homeowners since 2010 alone,” said Martin Costello, Director of National Service Programs at Rebuilding Together.  “We are extremely grateful to CNCS because AmeriCorps is an important component of our ability to rebuild and sustain communities.”

The new Rebuilding Together AmeriCorps members will mark their first day of service in Rebuilding Together affiliate offices on August 13, 2013. They will serve more than 2,000 homeowners this year by providing critical repairs and modifications to returning and disabled veterans, natural disaster victims, low-income families in need, and older Americans needing assistance with aging in place.

“Rebuilding Together  appreciates the AmeriCorps Members in our program who give so much during their service and continue to give back long after their term of service is over,” added Costello.
