Meridian Purchases 29,000 SF Parcel in Downtown Long Beach, CA to Build MOB
Meridian, a full-service commercial real estate developer based in California, is pleased to announce the purchase of three existing buildings on five parcels totaling 29,000 square feet of land located in Downtown Long Beach at 1078-1090 Atlantic Boulevard. Meridian paid $2.45 million for the property, which is located across the street from Dignity Health’s St. Mary’s Medical Center, a 389-bed, Level II Trauma Center. The properties are located in Valley Park, Missouri; Bradenton, Florida; and Lakewood, Ohio. McChesney has now completed the sale of 26 7-Eleven properties in over 2.5 years, the most 7-Elevens sold by one individual in the U.S. during this same period.
Construction Input Prices Inch Down in December, Up YOY Despite Low Inflation, ABC Says
Overall construction input prices declined 0.1 percent in December, yet despite the lack of inflation for the month, prices are up 5 percent on a year-over-year basis, according to an Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) analysis of Bureau of Labor Statistics data released today. Nonresidential construction materials prices also declined 0.1 percent for the month and are up 4.8 percent from the same time one year ago.

The Alliance to Save Energy announced Friday that President Kateri Callahan is leaving the organization after 14 years at the helm and launched a national search for her replacement. Callahan, who has helped drive tremendous national progress in energy efficiency during her tenure at the Alliance, is slated to leave the organization March 31 for a yet-to-be-announced, private-sector position in the efficiency field.
Nonresidential Construction Employment Ends 2017 on a High Note, Says ABC
The nonresidential construction sector added 11,800 net new jobs in December, representing nearly 10 percent of the nation’s jobs created during the month, according to an Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) analysis of data released today by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The nation’s overall construction sector added 30,000 net new jobs in December, a 0.4 percent month-over-month increase.

Most Americans Would Oppose Infrastructure Plan That Sacrifices the Environment, New Poll Shows
Americans overwhelmingly reject the idea that improving the nation’s infrastructure should come at the expense of protections for air, water, wildlife and natural places, a new poll finds. Ninety-four percent of Americans, including 92 percent of people who voted for President Donald Trump, say that the country can build and modernize infrastructure while keeping environmental protections in place, according to the poll, which was conducted by Hart Research Associates for the Center for American Progress and Defenders of Wildlife.
