Three years after Superstorm Sandy hit New York, Congressman Steve Israel (D –NY) renewed his push and announced legislation that would make co-ops, condo associations, and certain common interest communities eligible for the same vital assistance from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) available to other homeowners. Currently, co-ops, condo associations, and common interest communities are only eligible to receive loans and not grants. Following Superstorm Sandy, Rep. Israel wrote a letter and urged FEMA to make co-op and condo associations eligible for storm recovery grants.

U.S. Senators Barbara A. Mikulski and Ben Cardin together with Representatives Elijah E. Cummings, C.A. Dutch Ruppersberger and John P. Sarbanes (all D-Md.) today announced $10,000,000 in federal funding for the Southeast Baltimore Port Industry Freight Corridor Plan, making critical transportation infrastructure improvements to the Broening Highway Corridor that will create jobs and enhance the economic security of the Port of Baltimore and surrounding business community.

USDA Provides Funding for More Than 1,100 Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Projects Nationwide

Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack today announced that USDA is awarding loans and grants that will help more than 1,100 rural small businesses and agricultural producers reduce energy usage and costs in their operations. The funding is for energy efficiency improvements and/or renewable energy systems. USDA is financing projects in every state, as well as in the Virgin Islands, the Western Pacific and the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.

HUD AWARDS BARTLESVILLE, OKLAHOMA $500,000 MAIN STREET GRANT

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) announced today that the Bartlesville Redevelopment Trust Authority will receive a $500,000 grant to redevelop the former Washington County Memorial Hospital and build additional affordable housing units targeted to low-income residents. Grants to help once-incarcerated veterans return to work, avoid homelessness

Supporting the president's goal to eliminate homelessness among U.S. military veterans, the U.S. Department of Labor's Veterans' Employment and Training Service today announced the award of $1.5 million in grants to help once-incarcerated veterans considered "at risk" of becoming homeless. In all, seven grants will serve more than 650 formerly incarcerated veterans in six states.

City of Hayward Celebrates Groundbreaking of New Communities Near South Hayward BART

On Monday, September 21, 2015, the City of Hayward celebrated the groundbreaking of three new residential communities on the site of the former South Hayward BART overflow parking lots. Eden Housing is the developer of two affordable communities located off of Mission Boulevard that will provide in total 151 affordable apartments near the South Hayward BART station. AMCAL Equities is the developer of a market-rate community of 206 luxury apartments off of Dixon Street adjacent to the BART station.
