New York, NY. – June 28, 2012 – (RealEstateRama) — Nixon Peabody LLP is pleased to announce that John Kelly, a partner in the firm’s leading affordable housing practice, has been named chairman of the Board of Governors of the National Housing Conference (NHC). Since 1931, the national nonprofit has been dedicated to helping ensure safe, decent, and affordable housing for all in America.

“This tremendous organization has advocated effective housing policies at the local, state, and national levels and achieved great results that can be seen throughout our communities,” said Mr. Kelly. “It is truly an honor to continue my involvement with NHC and assume the role of chairman. I am looking forward to working with the Board of Governors, the Board of Trustees, and the full NHC membership to support and promote NHC’s mission.”

Mr. Kelly has more than 35 years of experience representing for-profit and nonprofit developers, owners, and operators in complex affordable housing transactions, including acquisitions and sales, ground leases, development agreements, and financings (private or public). From the earliest Section 8 restructurings to New York State and City Mitchell-Lama Programs and among the first Low-Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC) transactions in New York, Mr. Kelly has experience working with many critical government programs and housing policies and navigating them successfully to complete complex affordable housing deals to ensure that New York’s residents have access to vital housing. In 2011, Mr. Kelly was the recipient of the Clara Fox Award for Outstanding Achievement at the New York Housing Conference (NYHC) and the National Housing Conference (NHC) 38th Annual Awards Program.

NHC is known as the “united voice of housing.” The organization’s membership is drawn from every industry segment and forms the foundation for NHC’s broad, nonpartisan advocacy for national policies and legislation that promote suitable housing in a safe, decent environment. NHC convenes members, stakeholders, and others to improve coordination of diverse agendas and build consensus on key housing issues and advocates for policies and legislation focused on meeting the full range of housing concerns. NHC broadens the constituency base of those actively involved in the fight for affordable housing and elevates national awareness concerning the importance of and need for affordable housing.
