PRESS STATEMENT: REP. SHRI THANEDAR CELEBRATES EPA’S CLEAN SCHOOL BUS GRANT AWARDS FOR MICHIGAN SCHOOL DISTRICTS

National -

Washington, DC – RealEstateRama – Congressman Shri Thanedar (MI-13) announces the allocation of the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Clean School Bus grants to various Michigan school districts, including the Detroit Public Schools Community District in his own congressional district. This initiative, supported by the Biden-Harris Administration and funded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, is a significant effort to upgrade the nation’s school bus fleet to cleaner, more sustainable models.

“These new and upgraded buses are not just a transportation solution; they represent a commitment to a cleaner environment and the health of our school children,” Congressman Thanedar added. “Transitioning to electric and low-emission buses is a crucial step in our effort to ensure a safer, cleaner environment for students to learn and grow.”

Grant Details for Michigan School Districts:

  • Detroit Public Schools Community District: 15 buses.
  • Lansing School District: 15 buses.
  • School District of the City of Pontiac: 15 buses.
  • Flint School District: 10 buses (provided by First Student, Inc.).
  • Additional Districts: Buses for Mason County, West Shore ESD, Brimley, and Redford Union are provided by Highland Electric Fleets.

This allocation of grants follows nearly $1 billion previously awarded through a rebate competition last year, continuing the commitment to funding electric and low-emission school buses across the country.

“The EPA’s allocation of Clean School Bus grants to Detroit Public Schools is a significant investment in our community and the health of our students. This move towards cleaner, sustainable transportation marks an important step in enhancing the environment and securing a healthier future for the youth of Detroit,” stated Congressman Thanedar.

Congressman Thanedar remains focused on initiatives that promote environmental sustainability and public health, particularly in communities that have been historically underserved. He is dedicated to advocating for policies and programs that uphold environmental justice and health equity in Michigan’s 13th Congressional District and beyond.
