New Hanover County Planning and Land Use Director Announces Retirement

Chris O’Keefe, who has been New Hanover County’s Planning Director for 11 years and a valuable county employee for 27 years, will be retiring at the end of July. “This is a big loss for the county,” said County Manager Chris Coudriet. “Chris O’Keefe has been an effective voice in our community for responsible development, planning for connectivity, and environmental stewardship. His knowledge and expertise will be missed, but this is an excellent opportunity for Chris and his career.”

He was invited to join a delegation of elected local leaders from coastal states attending the Rising Tides Summit in Hampton, New Hampshire on October 23-25.

FTC Halts Deceptive Mortgage Loan Modification Scheme

The Federal Trade Commission has charged a mortgage loan modification operation with deceiving financially distressed homeowners by falsely promising to prevent foreclosure and make their mortgages more affordable. A federal court temporarily halted the scheme and froze the defendants’ assets at the FTC’s request.
