October Market Report

Memphis-area home sales for October decreased 3.5 percent from a year ago, with 1,336 total sales recorded in the Memphis Area Association of REALTORS® MAARdata property records database. Sales were down 6.2 percent from September, when there were 1,424 total sales. Average sales price from October-to-October was up 4.3 percent, at $156,692. Inventory decreased 1.8 percent, with 6,291 units listed for sale. Monthly sales volume YTD increased 6.8 percent to $2.20 billion.

U.S. Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) introduced the Veterans Homebuyer Accessibility Act, which would provide an $8000 refundable tax credit for specially adaptive housing modifications, and an $8000 first time homebuyer tax credit for all eligible veterans. U.S. Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary Julián Castro joined Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy in Alexandria, VA to announce a proposed rule to make the nation’s public housing propertiesentirely smoke-free. HUD’s proposed rule would require more than 3,100 public housing agencies (PHAs) across the country to implement smoke-free policies in their developments within 18 months of the final rule.

Call for Strong Clean Power Plan That Protects Impacted Communities

Members and allies of National People’s Action (NPA) from Detroit, MI, Chicago, IL and Buffalo, NY traveled to Pittsburgh, PA to give testimony at the first of four Environmental Protection Agency hearings on the Federal Implementation Plan proposed as part of the Clean Power Plan (CPP). NJ WOMEN Award $200,000 in Grants To Help Poverty-Stricken

Impact100 Garden State, a Morristown- based women’s philanthropic organization, awarded over $200,000 in grants to the Head Start Community Program of Morris County and the New Jersey Community Development Corporation (NJCDC) to support programs that help the elderly poor, disenfranchised young adults, and pre-school children from low-income families. Impact 100’s 204 members voted to award each organization a $102,000 grant at its annual members meeting on November 4 at the Olde Mill Inn in Basking Ridge. The organizations were selected from over 75 nonprofit applicants.

PACIFIC PALISADES SEES A 94 PERCENT INCREASE IN LUXURY HOME SALES IN OCTOBER 2015...

Sotheby’s International Realty today released its Greater Los Angeles Market Report which revealed Pacific Palisades as the top luxury market ($3 million and higher) with a 94 percent increase in single family home sales in October 2015. Westwood and Cheviot Hills saw the second largest increase in luxury home sales with a 50 percent increase and Beverly Hills Post office followed with a 46 percent increase.

Virginia is the First State in the Nation to Functionally End Veteran Homelessness

Governor Terry McAuliffe announced that Virginia has been certified by the United States Interagency Council on Homelessness, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs as the first state in the nation to functionally end veteran homelessness. Speaking at a Veterans Day ceremony at the Virginia War Memorial alongside U.S. Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Julián Castro, Governor McAuliffe declared that Virginia has housed 1,432 homeless veterans since October 2014.
