National BIM Guide for Owners Now Available for Public Review
The National Institute of Building Sciences has completed development of a new guideline to help building owners and their design teams utilize building information modeling (BIM). The National BIM Guide for Owners (NBGO) draft is now available for public review and comment until Monday, October 31.

NREL Releases Updated Baseline of Cost and Performance Data for Electricity Generation Technologies
The Energy Department's National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) has released the 2016 Annual Technology Baseline. In addition to updated data for utility-scale renewable and conventional energy technologies, this year's version includes cost and performance data for residential and commercial rooftop photovoltaics (PV) systems.

Existing-Home Sales Lose Steam in July
Slowed by frustratingly low inventory levels in many parts of the country, existing-home sales lost momentum in July and decreased year-over-year for the first time since November 2015, according to the National Association of Realtors®. Only the West region saw a monthly increase in closings in July.

New Workshop Looks at What to Do When Building Control Systems Get Hacked
A new workshop, sponsored by the National Institute of Building Sciences, answers the question of what to do when building control systems have been hacked or taken over by ransomware. Intended for building owners, facility managers, engineering, physical security, information assurance and other professionals involved with the design, deployment and operation of building control systems, the “Your Building Control Systems Have Been Hacked, Now What? Workshop,” to be held Tuesday, October 4, from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, in Arlington, Virginia, will provide a combination of classroom learning modules and hands-on laboratory exercises to help attendees learn how to detect, contain, eradicate and recover from a cyber event.

“Congress continues its march toward enactment of the first comprehensive energy legislation in almost a decade with today’s overwhelming 84-3 Senate vote to name conferees and move to conference with the House. With the announced agreement to set aside provisions that have garnered a veto threat from the White House, I am optimistic that any final version of the bill emerging from Congress will have as a centerpiece the impactful and important energy efficiency provisions in Title 1 of the Senate version of the bill.
