At a special meeting Monday morning, the Manhattan Borough Board formally voted to deny its approval to Mayor Bill de Blasio’s Zoning for Quality & Affordability (ZQA) and Mandatory Inclusionary Housing (MIH) Zoning proposals unless a range of outstanding major concerns are addressed. The Borough Board, made up of Manhattan’s Community Board chairs and City Council members, recommended disapproval of both plans by votes of 12-0, with four abstentions.

The Boston Housing Authority has awarded Community Builders, Jamaica Plain Neighborhood Development Corporation, and Urban Edge the developer designation for its Amory Street Development. Amory Street is an elderly/disabled public housing development in Jamaica Plain.  The three accomplished non-profit and local developers have joined together to create the Amory Partners, a joint venture, led by The Community Builders group

The Louisiana Housing Corporation (LHC) board of directors awarded $12.1 million in funding Wednesday to finance the construction and rehabilitation of 952 housing units of affordable housing. The $129.5 million in total development costs is powered by LHC’s issuance of $12.1 million in tax credits which generated $117 million in private funding. Of the 952 housing units that will be developed, 402 are newly constructed housing units and 550 are rehabilitated units.

Congressman John Shimkus (R, Illinois-15) led the U.S. House of Representatives to pass S. 611, the Grassroots Rural and Small Community Water Systems Assistance Act on Monday. The bill, which helps smaller and rural communities deal with the technical and financial challenges of regulations under the Safe Water Drinking Act, passed by voice vote.

The Georgia Department of Community Affairs (DCA) announced today it will award $25.8 million federal housing tax credits to construct or rehabilitate 33 affordable rental housing properties located throughout the state. The developments include affordable housing for working families, housing for Georgia seniors and housing for persons with disabilities, and were selected from 75 applications in the annual competition
